The Cotswolds (/ˈkɒtswoʊldz/ KOTS-wohldz, /-wəldz/ -wəldz) is an area in south central England containing the Cotswold Hills, a range of rolling hills which rise from the meadows of the upper Thames to an escarpment, known as the Cotswold Edge, above the Severn Valley and Evesham Vale. The area is defined by the bedrock of Jurassic limestone that creates a type of grassland habitat rare in the UK and that is quarried for the golden coloured Cotswold stone. It contains unique features derived from the use of this mineral; the predominantly rural landscape contains stone-built villages, historical towns and stately homes and gardens. The population of the District is about 84,000.

We sailed along from Gloucester docks to Sal Junction on our cruise. What a lovely canal, we saw lots of birds including quite a few kingfishers. So picturesque countryside. It was a wonderful trip and would love to do it again.

This river run through the Arlington row, quiet and calm clear water with lots of duck, spotted some fishes as well. It’s lovely sitting by the river and watch this sleepy old village.

The second longest bore in the world - we went late at night (well, it was dark) and waited and watched from the Severn bore pub, who patiently coped with everyone else doing the same thing. Everyone was excited, and chatting - very friendly atmosphere, and the pub thoughtfully had lights shining on the river. Three brave souls, two on kayak and one on a surfboard were on the water. It was hard to see the bore, but we certainly heard it, and the rise in water after it had passed. An excellent experience. We went back the next morning, and went to Newnham, where the river is wider, but obviously in daylight could watch the bore and the surfers - amazing experience.

The 3 mile walk around this island in the Avon is picturesque as well as healthy. The end of the walk takes you over a small footbridge, which is handily placed for the large riverside beer garden of the Hop Pole Hotel!

Lovely river, flowing through the main street of the quaint Cotswold Village of Bourton-on-the-Water. Stone bridges and ducks add to the character of this lovely village. Lovely to stroll along, while enjoying the atmosphere.

Wow, what a place Cheery Lakes is. One more night to go and already had over 20 carp smallest being 10lb and biggest which is a PB for Paige weighed 19lb15oz. Fish are in amazing condition and the facilities are awesome. The log cabin has everything you could want even great Wi-Fi (????????) which my kids were really happy about. Mike came round most mornings to check if everything was ok, and Dave the Bayliff was a great help, even getting in the rowing boat to help out with a fish that took my son in to a snag, happy son as we landed the fish at 15lb9oz.
