Bobbing in the frothing North Atlantic, the remote, 18-piece Faroes are a picturesque patchwork of emerald pastures, dotted with sheep, gaily-hued cottages and tree-free moors. The sea is never more than three miles distant in this proud, assured land, where deep-rooted traditions remain strong. The coasts boast deep fjords, steep cliffs and looming headlands. Explore these fjords by wooden sloop or sail the coast by schooner. Walk the fells and brave the unpredictable weather to puffin spot.

Iconic wooden sailship used to present the Faroe Islands from the best side. The translation of the faroese name "Norðlysið" is "The Northern Light". Norðlysið was built as a sailship with a helping motor at the shipyard in Torshavn during World War II. The ship is built from Canadian oak tree which is considered exceptionally good. It was the second ship produced at this shipyard. The ship was finished and given the first owners 5th of May in 1945, the same day as World War II ended. Norðlysið was used primarily as a fishing ship a round the Faroes from 1945 until 1980. From 1985 until 1989 the ship was renovated for a more schooner rigging. The ship has since then focused primarily on tourists, and sail each summer around the islands to show tourists what a beautiful country they are visting.
