Close enough to walk to the town centre of Sayaboury, about a mile north from the central crossing. The room was spacious and clean, although not so gorgeous, of course. Staffs are not so good at speaking English, but they are kind enough to try to, and it's enough. Aside from the small pool stand a tropically designed cafe with an open terrace and a small restaurant. The café was neat and comfortable. As they don't serve any food but drinks, you need to move to the restaurant if you are peckish. You can drink beers at the restaurant even late at night, but I took bottles back to my room and enjoyed them by myself because the restaurant was filled with local people drinking and enjoying karaoke. Everything is clean and well-designed. You need not to "tolerate" anything. They even have Wi-Fi for guests! The only thing you need to know about the room is the way to turn on the shower. You need to find a small knob (I'll attach a photo) by the wall. I could, but a couple of my colleagues, including Lao girl, ended up calling the staff to ask how. One of the most annoying problems you encounter when you search for information on the Lao PDR soil will not only be the scarcity of the English information but also the spelling variants. Sayaboury (which seems to be official these days) tend to be spelled as "Xaignabouri/ Xayaboury/ Sayabouli/ Sayabouri", and this hotel, Phonephailin, is found as "Phonepalun" in Google map. I can imagine that it's chiefly because they don't use alphabetic characters, but if you are facing trouble with finding a place to stay in Sayaboury, maybe you should choose this hotel.

We came for the annual elephant festival (which we heard may not happen in 2016, so check ahead!) overall good stay and helpful service, with one problem they corrected quickly. The one problem: when we arrived, we were told the hotel was full, despite having a reservation. This is the busiest time by far in this small town, but still frustrating. The manager Namphon was quick to fix things: we were driven to another hotel across the road and given a nice room there. The next morning, we walked our luggage back to 3 Sisters and were able to leave luggage there while we checked out the elephant festival. Our room was ready when we returned in the afternoon and no other issues from there. Namphon is one of the very few people at 3 Sisters (and even Sayabouly) who speak English, and she was very helpful. She drove us to the festival, offered to pick us up and helped us with ordering from the menu, our DIY BBQ, etc. It's important to have her available if you have requests or needs. The hotel itself is good: washrooms are a bit older, but all other amenities are there: clean beds (a little hard), newer rooms, restaurant on-site. For the festival: it's about 45 minutes to an hour walk to the main festival area, but it's an easy walk with some shops and restaurants along the way. There are tuktuks and private drivers, but not many and we found it hard to find them when we wanted them. We'd stay here again if we came, but would check if Namphon were there to help first!

Basic rooms, functional, would suit budget back packer traveler or local on a budget. Good location. Air con., TV, overhead fan, soap, towel, clean sheets and soft bed. Check your room before committing as some have insect screens others do not. Right beside the Mekong, our room ha view of it. Dinning can be had next door, nice river view setting good food at a reasonable price. Lovely local people, interested that falung's are in town. Not many flaungs

Large, clean well appointed twin room with good facilities, including tea and coffee facilities, air conditioning, large bath with shower, flat screen TV with DVD, and bar fridge. Breakfast is included in room tariff which is very reasonable.

Nice enough and the owner is super friendly and helped us organising our trip to the elephant camp. There is no wifi but that was actually a pleasant change as I got a heap of reading done. There's not much around in the way of eats but a few makeshift restaurants and the local market is a short walk away and worth a looksy. We could of been in a better location but it was fine.

This place is located on the main drag going through town. It has free WIFI and it has hot water and cold air conditioning. The bed was VERY hard and the walls are thin so you can hear a lot at night. Free coffee and tea at the front desk but no restaurant. Very inexpensive.
