Two couples staying for 3 nights. One of us got upgraded to the superior room without charge. Breakfast is great and staff very friendly. Kuta is a nice small city with many bars and restaurants and especially the surrounding beaches are worth a visit! The only small negative things was - no WiFi in the superior room and bad connection on the terrasse. - The rooms smelled a bit sometimes - Some of the staff didnt have the autority to do others things than making your breakfast and helping with questions which got confusing when asking our passports back after renting scooters for a day. But overall a very nice stay and we would be happy to come again!

We enjoyed our time at Kuta Lodge so much! Very very friendly and helpful family, thanks a lot! Breakfast was always very delicious (best bananapancake in town!). The room and the homestay area were very clean and nice, it’s possible to book with or without A/C. The Lodge is also central and still very quiet. There‘s also a possibility to rent scooters (also with boardrack). We‘ll definitely come back again!

I was looking for a budget place. I stayed here for a week in one of just two rooms. It's 50 meters inside street.I had breakfast included but i think these rooms needs only a fridge at least in common to be ok without increasing night price. The owner as a travel agency and motorbike to rent also.

I understand how reviews should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Highly dependent on the traveler’s expectations, experiences and personality. Thus, this review is to be regarded as a precautionary tale for other travelers, especially female solo or female group travelers. My female traveling companion and I, arrived in Kuta Lombok hoping to get some diving in. We booked our dives and checked into Hi5 after a recommendation from the receptionist at Harmony Villas in the same area. Hi5 appeared new, well-established, secured by a security and heavy metal gates and was in a turn off near the main road surrounded by open, vacant lands. We put our stuffs down, got changed and headed down to dinner along the strip following the beach. Whilst leaving the room, we realised that the lock on the sliding door was dodgy, not locked properly if you don’t hold the door and lock in at a certain angle. We tried to lock it again, checked it and left for dinner. Upon returning from dinner, we sat on the wide, open verandah, watched the stars, chatted, before heading into the room, turning the key in the knob twice to lock it. Because our room was villa 4, located upstairs, with no opposite neighbours or buildings surrounding us, we didn’t draw the blackout curtains shut while hanging in our room. At that time, both of us were preparing our dive cameras, cleaning them and sorting them out for the dives for the next morning. We set out our gear, some on the table, some on the couch, drew the blackout curtains shut and went to bed. Next morning, we woke up at about 6:45 a.m., both of us feeling extraordinarily drowsy and tired. However, excited to start the dives ahead, we got changed. During the process, I was trying to locate my backpack in the room but couldn’t find it anywhere, I looked in the wardrobe, under the table, nowhere. I started asking my traveling companion where my bag was, that was when she realised my dive camera was missing from the table. I drew the curtains opened and my heart leaped out of my mouth when we saw the sliding door was ajar. Walking out to the verandah, our backpacks, little daypacks and belongings were strewn all around, together with another backpack of another lady who was staying in a villa on the ground floor. The burglars have left our opened luggages alone. All of the cash in different currencies and our dive cameras, underwater housings were gone. The bulgars even went through the trouble to search for the charger for my dive camera. They left our passports, credit cards and clothing items. Seeing how open the area is (please check pictures), and the vulnerability we were feeling, we gathered all our leftover items and tried to keep them safe in the room. We went down to get the security immediately who helped me dial for the manager. The manager was irate on the phone and accused us immediately of, “why you no lock your door”, “you talk to local men” (which, for the record, did not happen apart from the waiter taking our dinner orders for that night), “you give keys to friend”. I told him to call the police immediately and to please come down to talk to us face to face. The manager arrived and his disposition did not calm down a wee bit. He was accusing us of all sorts, extremely angry and was shouting at us. When we requested for the police to get involved, he told us to, “Go! Go to the police! Whatever! Go now.” Thankfully, he also allowed two of his staff to drive us to the police station on the back of their scooters there. The entire episode of how an investigation went down doesn’t need to be on this review. All I am hoping to achieve from this is that you realise that this is a true story of what happened to my female traveling companion and myself. I felt utterly violated thinking that someone broke into my room while we were both asleep. Most probably, being watched to ensure we stay asleep as they looted our stuffs. We were lucky, we didn’t wake up through the whole episode. I’m usually an incredibly light sleeper. But, we walked away, unscathed. Not stabbed. Physically safe. Mentally distraught. We are travelers. I’ve lived in Johannesburg, one of the most “notoriously dangerous” places the media likes to make it out to be. I’ve lived in Cambodia. You hear stories of people being looted, stabbed, murdered in the night. It never happened to me. I never had to worry about it happening to me in the middle of the night. You never would have thought something like that would happen in a very decent looking hotel like Hi5, with an all-nighter security guard (there were no security cameras whatsoever in the hotel). But it did. It was not an urban legend of something like this happening to someone of someone that you know. It happened to me. A real person. And I urge you, to make an informed decision. Decide what is best for your traveling needs, desires, budgets. No matter what, just be sure to lock your sliding door. Properly. Doubly. Heck, place bells on the door. Stow every valuables you have away in the safe. Do all you can, however, at the end of the day, no one can protect yourself apart from you. Also, we cannot be sure if the door was actually properly locked, broken into or opened with another key. Nobody knows. And I will probably never find out. But, if you would like to have a trip not feeling how we did, stay away from Hi5, there were too many ends that were untied. Everyone is pointing fingers at everybody. Nobody wants to be that person. But, also, nobody wants this noted down in their holiday scrapbook. Kuta Lombok has tonnes of options. May Hi5’s horrendous travel memory of ours not be shared by you or yours.
