Zhuo Ma's Jiuzhaigou Home Stay is the Lonely Planet and Rough Guide top choices for Jiuzhaigou accommodation. It is located in the beautiful Shang Si Zhai Valley which is 15km from the park entrance (free transfers provided) where you will see local Tibetans go about their daily life, herding yak and goats as well as going on pilgrimages around our sacred mountains. Zhuo Ma runs the home stay with her mother (Ama) and brothers. They share their time between the home stay and their A Bu Lu Zi Tibetan Restaurant and between them will make sure you have a great stay! There is 24hrs hot water and a western toilet in the home stay. It is a traditional Tibetan home so there are no en-suite bathrooms. There is one bathroom on the ground floor of the home as well as two outhouse toilets, one with a solar heated hot shower. They do everything they can to make your stay comfortable but please note that this is a home stay in a beautiful, traditional Tibetan valley, not a hotel.
The house itself is nice, the surrounding is beautiful. The downside is that you cant really go anywhere, because there is no transportation. They will take you to the Jiuzhaigou park, which is great. If you want to visit Huanglong park, they will book a taxi for you, since its a little far. I had a flight back in the afternoon, so I visited Huanglong in the morning, its not so large and a few hours is enough. So, 2-3 days would be more than enough in that area. I didnt like taxi arrangements. I was picked up in the airport by some Chinese guy that was trying to do some shady business, tried to get something from me, which I couldn't understand. I had to call the main office from the car, they spoke to him and after that he finally stopped. Another detail, they never tell you to pay the driver. I took taxi on the way there and on the way back, and both times, they paid themselves. It looks like they are trying to make some extra on your taxi rides and overcharging you. But since you cant get a taxi from there by yourself, you are very limited. Dinners were great and tasty.

We really enjoyed our stay at Caiyun Hotel. It is very quiet in Jiuzhaigou at the moment from the earthquake, so most places have shut down. From the other places we saw in the area, Caiyun definitely seems to be the nicest. Staff are very friendly and the rooms are comfortable. Highly encourage doing a one-day Huanglong hiking trip. Remember to buy tickets for the Jiuzhaigou national park well in advance as the number of people allowed into the park has been reduced significantly.

We never met the son, however the mother was really lovely. Always smiling and always accommodating. The room as well as the shower is tiny but good enough for a one night stay. The bed is rather comfy which is rare in that part of the world. Would stay there again anytime!

Best place to stay when you visit Jiuzhaigou. 15 min drive from the park you find this lovely Tibetan lodge. The family is very friendly and make amazing food. They can pick you up from the bus stop and drop you at the park. Highly recommend. Stephan, the Netherlands

Jiuzhaigou is an achingly beautiful place. However, our travel experience may sometimes be ruined by other inconsiderate travellers/tourists, which are plentiful in China. For those of you that are accustomed to China, you may know that I'm not exaggerating when I said that mainland Chinese tourists (particularly the older ones) have a tendency to spit wantonly, cutting queue, interjecting into our affair when it's not their affairs to meddle with. And so, I'm mindful of the people that I'm going to bump into should I book myself into chain hotels with rooms aplenty. Being a seasoned traveller, I would like to spend time in a guest house where I have an opportunity to interact with local people. This Inn is exactly what it is, an inn to host overnight travellers. The lady owner is Lady Xie and she's a walking encyclopedia. She knows intimately of this region as she used to be a tour guide. She's very proactive and suggesting me of what to do, where to go, how to do things. Her humanity shines through and she's attentivfe and very willing to dispense useful information to me to ensure that I don't get ripped off, to do things that are meaningful and not being tourist trap. She spent time discussing with me about Tibetan culture, the meaning of Buddhism in her life & in Tibetan life & the list continues. Time flew by quickly as we sipped the Tibetan tea and listening to her tales in the cold night of Jiuzhaigou. I have to say that it's truly an enchanting experience staying there. Lady Xie is concerned about travellers not being able to getting themselves breakfast in the morning before heading to Jiuzhaigou Reserve and so, she adjusted her boarding accordingly to INCLUDE breakfast now to ensure that our stay in this region is a comfortable one. I do feel pampered and spoiled under her team's care. Being a proprietor of a hotel, I appreciate the little gesture that she made and truthfully, the sum of all parts is what we always strive for in hospitality industry. A job well-done and I duly hope that fellow travellers out there shall keep on supporting great people like her to thrive. It's win-win situation, isn't it?

we came to visit Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong (both well worth visiting), and chose Sims Azalea. i had good luck with my room, but my traveling companions were not so fortunate. in one case the shower faucet handle came off, spewing water all over the bathroom. in other cases, the rooms hadn't been cleaned, towels hadn't been changed, etc. in our group of maybe six rooms, maybe two or three ended up changing rooms. on the positive side, the hotel staff immediately cleaned up the un-cleaned rooms, worked stopping the water flow. there is no breakfast available at this hotel, but there are many restaurants (including one physically connected with the hotel) open in the morning for breakfast. there is a small open air fruit market (and, in the mornings, butcher's) a block or so from the hotel. to get from the hotel to Jiuzhaigou one takes a (possibly plain-clothed) taxi for a few kilometers, a trip which probably cost us 10-20 CNY. (Huanglong is about two hours away; we hired cars with drivers to get there and bring us back.) the staff at the hotel was very friendly. the wifi was problematic.

The hostel was Tibetan-styled, it made the experience more meaningful, gave us the feeling of living the locals' life. I remember one night I was sitting in his front yard with his puppy sleeping in my arms. I could see the mountains with clouds covering their tops, it was just so quiet and peaceful. Every morning I woke up and stepped outside, I was greeted by beautiful sceneries. The hostel owner's name is Zhao Zilong (This is another name of the hostel). He was very helpful. His English was good enough. He sent his friend to pick me up from the bus station, and invited me to have dinner with him because I'd just arrived and it was raining outside. The local restaurant and the Tibetan show he suggested were great. He also booked the ticket to the show and had it delivered to the hostel for me. I saw another traveller's review saying his ticket costed 280RMB when he bought it at the park. Don't know why mine only costed 260RMB.
