Set right on the unspoiled white sandy beach, lined with palm trees and washed by warm, turquoise waters of Indian Ocean. Sunshine Boutique Hotel is a fantastic place for those looking for relaxing holidays on the beach. Sunshine Boutique Hotel is set right on the beautiful stretch of beach so you can go for long walks, ride a bike or just sunbathe. The ZANZIBAR MAGIC BOUTIQUE HOTEL is set right on the spectacular white sand beach near Matemwe village on the north-east coast of Zanzibar Island. Eco-friendly and small-scale with only 19 rooms, the hotel’s design is inspired by traditional African and Zanzibari architecture. It is built with the unique skills of local craftsmen using local materials like palm leaves for the thatched bungalow and bar/restaurant roofs and mninge, the local hardwood, for the carpentry. The hotel is set on the always pleasantly breezy east coast of Zanzibar Island. The location and special design assure you can enjoy your stay, whether you choose the beachfront, our bar and restaurant or the spaciously comfortable rooms. All rooms include spacious wooden terraces, magical views of the white, palm-fringed beach and turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.
I'm a bit ambivalent about writing this review as the hotel had its ups and downs. The good things first... a very nice beach front area with the garden, swimming pool, deck chairs, and the bar/restaurant. The staff were very courteous and helpful throughout. There were kayaks and bicycles to borrow, which I recommend doing. But then the biggest letdown were the rooms. The website boasts comfortable 35 m2 rooms. In reality they are pretty cramped and, if you stay on the ground floor, very dark. They are nowhere near the advertised 35 m2 unless you factor in the bathroom and the veranda in the equation. Then the food... we only had a few meals here as we were on B&B but it was hit or miss. The seafood was very good, but then we had a couple of different chicken dishes that were below average. There's really no reason to go for a full board plan as there are numerous lodges and local shacks within walking distance that offer excellent dining options. All in all the hotel was not bad to stay at, but we got the impression that the "boutique" part of the name was slapped on for being able to charge higher rates than are motivated by what is on offer.

What a great place to stay. We traveled a lot, but Mambo Paradise is by far the most familiar hotel ever visit, it’s like visiting your own family. Fantastic view, great atmosphere and all comfy and clean. And not only owners but also whole staff are very kind and helpful. Highly recommend

Panga Chumvi Beach Resort, Matemwe, on the north eastern coast of Zanzibar, is right on the white sand beach opposite the pristine coral reef of Mnemba Island. We are a small eco lodge with 15 rooms, none of which are further than 40 metres from the beach.
We have had a great time there, all the staff were so kind, they cleaned the room regularly and put clean towels every day. The beach is two minutes away from the bungalows. The pool was always clean the garden beautiful and well organized. Small willage next to it so you can have a look how the locals live. Most of the Beach Boys understand we didn't want use them or buy something. Food was nice yummy but the breakfast was little bit boring as we had the same fruits and eggs, toast, tea, coffee every morning. By the way we had great two weeks in the panga chumvi.

We enjoyed our 5 night stay at Roxana's bungalows - very nicely decorated, super supportive staff and nice people with lots of good recommendations where to book activities or where to run errands. Literally a minute walk from the endless beach of Matemwe. Breakfast was tasty and kitchen open in case you wanted to make yourself a coffee or store stuff in the fridge. Tiger (the very chill & calm dog) was super nice to have around.

Villa Kiva is located on the long and white sandy beach of Matemwe on the north east coast of Zanzibar. Matemwe is well known for the absence of big resorts and mass tourism. It is a part of the island where it is still possible to share and live the local life, walking through a local fish market and having a relaxing time on the beach. Just in front of Villa Kiva there is the atoll of Mnemba Island where it is possible to admire the amazing reef and colourful fish both snorkeling and scuba diving.
We had a nice room with a great sea view balcony. The setting was nice with easy access to the ocean and two swimming pools in the back. Housekeeping was perfect. Really nice place! Two downsides however: the restaurant was ok, but not more than that. Some of the staff never smiled - not a big problem, but an would have been an easy way to improve or experience.

Zanzibar Pearl Boutique Hotel & Villas is a unique ocean-front hotel in the most spectacular beach of Matemwe. Located on the north-east coast of Zanzibar, away from the hustle and bustle. Inspired by the local Zanzibar Architecture, it incorporates the styles with local resources. Our aim is to provide authentic, stylish, and comfortable accommodation, in an atmosphere of relaxed hospitality.
We booked 4 nights at this hotel in February for the Easter week and had looked very much forward to it as part of our holidays in Zanzibar. Upon arrival to Pearl Boutique Hotel we were greeted by a male front desk manager and a couple of friendly female staff members. The manager informed us that we could use mountain bikes free of charge, that we probably couldn’t go on a boat tour with our 11 months year old baby, that we needed reef shoes to swim in the sea and that it was likely to rain during our entire stay. After that kind introduction, which took approximately 1 hour since they asked for an upfront payment of the room and didn’t believe us when we said that 50% was already paid when we made the reservation and needed to check their system, we were shown to our room. In the mail from the lady at the reservation department, the room was referred to as a “Pearl suite”. It was a sea front, tiny room measuring an estimated 16 square meters with a small double bed and two old fans. The fans were not connected though, so the room was extremely hot and humid. We asked to be shown an alternative room and they offer us the “Pearl villa” for 270 USD per night, which is with a 10% discount to which is added a 5% “card fee”. The reservation of the “Pearl suite” was made with a 15% discount due to the low season. But, as they reminded us, they don’t do any refunds so it made sense to accept their current price and top up what we already disbursed rather than to leave and go back to our previous hotel. The “Pearl villa” is a pleasant room with AC, an out door bathroom and a plunge pool, but the name is still misleading - it is not a villa - it’s a normally sized hotel room with a nice, private outdoor space..! It is also next to the ocean has a beautiful view. We were supplied with one bottle of filtered water per day for three persons, and the shower cream / shampoo in the room was of cheap quality. We booked half board, where a three course dinner with a very ambitious menu was included. Unfortunately, the food was OK at best. It would probably be easier to maintain high quality with a shorter menu. The service staff were very kind, friendly and flexible. The breakfast was also generous in size and the taste/quality was OK. We would never stay here again or recommend anyone to to so due to the overpriced rates used in combination with the lack of high quality expected with those rates - this includes the food, the beds and the entire interior both in the rooms and in the common areas. As a reference, we stayed at Park Hyatt in Stone Town in the beginning of our trip to Zanzibar which was only a little pricier and the experience is not comparable in terms of the standard and services provided.
