Just 45 minutes out of the city, the East Coast Road first stops at the historic town of Mahabalipuram. The 7th century erstwhile port city is famous for its rock-cut shore temples. A lone lighthouse on a hill watches over a group of temples below. Mahabalipuram also has some great cafes that serve good sea food. A backpacker’s delight, one can find cheap accommodations and plenty of activities.

The Rajalaksmi Guesthouse has a great location in the middle of the budget hotel neighborhood. A small street from the back of the hotel goes directly to the beach 100 meters away. The rooms are small and a little worn, but nicely clean. There is a restaurant where they serve good breakfast and a decent lunch and dinner. The staff is friendly and helpful. Not a particularly interesting place, but a reasonable choice if you want a cheap accommodation.

When we arrived to the guest house, they gave us a room in another guesthouse without telling us. Then I went back to ask them about that and they told me that silver moon was overbooked (and that the did that on purpose) , so we had to stay in their sister guest house. It's not okay to farm out guests without letting them know . I think we got a bigger room, but we wanted to stay at the guest house we booked. The same night around 21.45 when we were in bed, a man knocked very loudly on our door . He continued until vi opened and said that we needed to pay for air-conditioning?! I told him, that he needs to take this with the other guest house, since they were the ones who send us there. And that we will not pay anything extras after being moved. He continued arguing and saying that we have to pay for the AC, since our original booking was a room without AC. Again I told him, that we won't pay anything extras. At the day of check out they again asked us to pay for AC. I already got an email from booking.com saying that we shouldn't pay, since they moved us. So again I told him no. 20 minutes after leaving the guest house, I get an email, saying that we owe them money for AC. This is totally insane and the worst experience ever.

One of the better cheap and cheerful places to eat in the beach, near the bus station, and long established, with good menu and they knw what they are doing. Rooms are OK too beside their restaurant. Gets busy at times.

This is a Mini Beach Resort located near the beach and mainly for middle range and budget tourists. There are 14 rooms, 4 A/C and 10 Non A/c rooms, 6 of them having straight sea view spacious balcony. The beach is within stone throw distance. We have a homely atmosphere and beautiful green garden, which makes you feel at home. That why its Greenwoods Beach Resort.
This GH is run by three very kind, caring and helpful Indian ladies, and Mani the always smiling young house boy. The GH is very nice with the trees, flowers and Ganesha in the patio. It's quiet, well kept and renovated old rooms, comfy beds, everything is clean and works well (like fan, ac, shower). They have many different rooms in various price range. The location is great, close to the beach and to all restaurants and shops, walking distance to all sites and bus stand. We used their taxi service to go to Chennai airport and it was impeccable, comfy car, on time and professional behavior.

Made a last minute booking for a night stay. The place loudly carries its warmth, charm, attraction - all around. Mr.Madhavan who runs it - is true professional & humble. Just sit outside the room for hours or hit the beach within 28 steps(am serious !) - only an alarm or hunger can distract you. Otherwise, hours can fly - just doing nothing. Best place - have seen around with no commercial elements. The rooms are compact & suits a family of 3. And is well maintained. To sum it up, this Home, away from Home !

Awesome experience in all aspects. The location, the look, the texture, the room, the washroom, the swimming pool, the lawn, the seaside restaurant and overall clean in every corner. Enjoyed, refreshed and rebooted with my family. The foods too very tasty but somehow they need to bit fast in housekeeping.
