On the south side of the Alps, Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy. Since the climate is mild year-round, the area is filled with Mediterranean vegetation and exotic plants. Lake Maggiore was featured in Ernest Hemingway's infamous novel, A Farewell to Arms, when the protagonist and his lover must row across the lake in order to escape the Italian Carabinieri (think police in military uniforms). Here's hoping you won't have any run-ins of that nature.

Small family runned hotel, since 1958 property of Famiglia Bolongaro. Since three generation offering hospitality. Now run by Federico, who tries to do his best to fullfil the guests' desires.
Although a small hotel the adjoining resteraunt punches above its weight. Great seasonal menu. Special requests not a problem. Friendly proprietor owned. Great plate of Bolognese ordered off menu. Hotel has 10 rooms and is worth asking about the tariff.

Family-run hotel, only a few steps from the lake, just in front of the Borromean islands;in the square before services of connection for the islands, Stresa and lakeexcursions. The Restaurant offers lake specialty, from to taste on the ample terrace (veranada) leaned out on the gulf of the Islands Borromee. The vast menù includes flat typical National and International.
On the positive: This is a very quaint, pet friendly hotel in a great lake front location and with friendly staff. Bathroom is clean and has everything you need including a bidet. The downside is that it does not have an elevator so if you have a lot of luggage or simply have difficulties lifting it due to injury, you will be very annoyed. Rooms have no AC, and the ceiling fan was loose and making too much noise, but at the time of travel, Italy was going through a heatwave and turning it off was not an option. Hotel is advertised as having free parking but in fact, it does not have its own parking facility. There is free and metered street parking, but you may need to circle around before you find a spot. Although it is a lake front property, if you want to take a dip in the lake, you need to walk at least 500 meters, so keep that in mind.

La Cucchetta Bed & Breakfast, located in Dormelletto, near Arona, on Lake Maggiore, surrounded by the greenery of Parco dei Lagoni di Mercurago, offers luxury holidays with a lake view in a historical farm famous for breeding racehorses. There are 2 apartments available for guests.
We spend 5 nights there. And it was so amazing. Rooms, breakfast, service with so much love. Not a standard hotel, its more like and old british style country house. You will love the ambience. Lots of horses around and one Zebra!! Amazing.

Cannero is a lovely quiet spot. We both stayed at and ate at Il Cortile, both were superb, on top of that it has the most delightful management of anywhere I have ever stayed. Make sure you book a table in the restaurant.

This place does plainly put not deserve its high average score. It is clean, granted, but in terms of amenities and overall it just does not meet expectations. The location next to the busy street going around Lago Maggiore was to be expected; however, there has been taken no measures to reduce the noise level - which makes you feel like you're sleeping in the left lane of the autostrada. The bed could well have been cut from a marble slab that would have brought a tear to Michelangelo's eye, but for sleeping purposes it was harder than the already hard Italian standard. The owner, a friendly chap who also runs the bar, charges 5 € for an 0.40 l Beck's draft beer, so you are probably better served at the bar next door. Oh, and regarding the "room with a lake view" - specks of lake could be observed through the tree tops, but that was all. A shame.

We were looking for something affordable in peak vacation time. We found this hotel (they call it B&B). When you arrive, it seems a bit lost not in the best places. But actually it is quiet and it is 5min walking away from Verbania Intra. The beds we got were definitly top quality. But we were 3, room was for 5 so big enough, we slept windows open with not a single noise outside... Next morning, breakfast was average. Overall, not the sexiest place to stay but if you travel with low budget around this part of lake which is pretty expensive, then this is a pretty good place to stay in.

I've stayed at this hotel twice now and would definitely go back! It's a family run hotel and they are incredibly helpful and friendly. The terrace for the restaurant is amazing, there's views of the Lake and the sun rises over the terrace in the morning. The breakfast is delicious.. if you like lots of Parma ham! The pizzas are great as well. Our room was really clean on arrival and kept clean during our stay. It was nice to have somewhere to park the car as well. :-)

Got here not on my choice but had a room booked unfortunately! As a person that works in hospitality: hotels, restaurant and bar I had and received the worst and rude service by the manager or co-owner. The attitude were unpleased and uncomfortable, I saw the manager during the breakfast time screaming to one of the guest simply because the cappuccino made by the guest was over floating from the cup (really)? You should please your guest not intimidate them!!!!!! The food is under priced and the breakfast is simply not up to the standards. I will never recommend to any of my guest and will never return here! Ps: you can be so much better if your attitude can change!
