The crown jewel of Campbeltown and just 8 km from the award-winning golf courses of Machrihanish, the newly restored Royal Hotel provides unrivalled luxury accommodation to the Kintyre Peninsula. Enjoy marvelously appointed guest rooms, fine dining at The Harbourview Grille and spirited good times at The Black Sheep Pub, all overlooking the picturesque Campbeltown Harbour.
Here is what we liked about The Royal Hotel in Campbeltown: the central location across from the harbor, the pretty public spaces, the very comfortable bed, and the pleasant staff. Here's what could use improvement: the torn curtain in the bay window of our room, the cave-like dim lighting in both bedroom and bathroom, and the few electrical outlets with no USB charging ports. Our room was very large but the poor lighting made it difficult to navigate without all the curtains wide open. Updated room décor and brighter lighting would make a big difference. Breakfast was fine and all the staff were very nice. If the ambiance of the rooms matched the updated paint and furnishing of the public spaces, the Royal Hotel could be a standout in this lovely town.

What an beautiful B&B this is, I could not find fault with anything. Owner Andy (and his lovely dogs) could not have been anymore welcoming, nothing was two much trouble. Delicious full breakfast before setting off in the morning I will definitely look forward to another stay here.

30 minutes from Tarbert & 15 minutes from Campbeltown. Ideally suited for exploring the Kintyre Peninsula, Gigha & Campbeltown. The house, has been newly renovated and is situated next to the cafe, stores and garden centre in Glenbarr. All 4 rooms have either en-suite or private WC/shower facilities. The rooms have TV and Wifi throughout the property.
Lovely hotel, we stayed in the loft, which has got a separate kitchen and lounge area. Very nice touch to have 2 pints of milk waiting in the fridge. Cleanliness is of a very high standard. The carpets were thick and bouncy, must have had a refurb not too long ago. Shower was s bit tricky to get to the right temperature but got there in the end. Duvet was filled with alpaca wool, very comfy as was the bed itself. Breakfast was in the cafe of the attached garden centre. Very tasty.and very good service. Really nothing to complain about, only that we should have planned to stay longer than the 1 night….

Our stay was overnight ahead of catching the Islay Ferry next morning. Being a 'Blue Badge' motorist we were able to park immediately below our room. The Islay Frigate is typical of its type - homely, limited in its offering but what it does it does well. Our bedroom was spacious, clean and well presented. The only disappointment is that the hotel is not currently serving evening meals. However there are lots of eating places along the harbour edge. The evening bar at the Frigate was busy but not intrusive. Breakfast was a little rushed with the ferry sailing timing but the Frigate manager seemed to be very capable in a multiple of roles! The essential ingredient in our holidays is the need to include our elderly Cocker Spaniel which the Frigate does well without being intrusive.

A lovely little hotel about 20 minutes pleasant walk from Campbeltown. Great Scottish breakfast included. The main positive about this hotel though is the staff . They deserve a bonus. They could not do enough for us. The hotel is small and quaint but without the staff it would not have been the same great stay.

On a drab wet cold evening, we were ushered into the lounge where a log burner was burning bright. Hot drinks were available and the welcome was first class. Everything about the place, the rooms, the facilities and the breakfast were first class. By far the best B & B I have ever stayed in.
