10 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Jersey Shore: Best hotel deals for 2023

May 19, 2023 Emerita Lamoureux

The Atlantic coast of New Jersey, with its beaches and boardwalks, stretches from Sandy Hook in the north to Cape May in the south. Fresh ocean breezes fan 127 miles of sandy beaches. Drive between cities or catch a NJ Transit bus or Atlantic City jitney bus. Atlantic City packs people in to nightlife venues and casinos. Wildwood's boardwalk is well-trod. Asbury Park is once again popular, particularly with gays and lesbians. Cape May's restaurants and Victorian inns lure tourists to the historic town.

DISASTER GROSS DIRTY

Reviewed By Perpetusmile

This stay was a terrible disappointment. The hallway and room had a bad smell, the room was dirty including hair and dust, the shower had mould in between the tiles, the towels did not seem to be clean, the sheet was dirty and the shower drain was clogged. We were unable to sleep that night as we were grossed out. We called the front desk to complain but noone answered. We reached out to management but they never did respond. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS HORRIBLE PLACE AND DISHONEST AND ARROGANT MANAGEMENT.

We stayed at Elaine’s for our girls getaway weekend and loved it! Staff was great (the owners, Joan at the front desk and Paul and Sky in the restaurant). Room was remodeled, bright and clean. We ate breakfast there all three mornings and were never disappointed - fresh, delicious and generous portions. Great location. We ate dinner offsite at The Lobster House, Tisha’s and Panico’s and would highly recommend all there. No complaints, it was a great weekend!

A return visit!

Reviewed By generalnansi

My husband & I visited Atlantis Inn several years ago and decided to return over the Memorial Day weekend. Happily, the Inn is still being lovingly cared for and is still beautiful. The inviting breakfast room with hot water for tea (my personal favorite) and a delicious breakfast for both days of our stay was much appreciated. We stayed in suite 12 with a king bed and a wonderful state of the art shower with plenty of jets and also a hand held wand. This location was perfect for us since steps are limited to entering the Inn. The location is perfectly situated in the heart of Ocean City right where the action is. It was nice to return to a familiar place and see that it is well cared for. We will be returning again soon!!

Wilbraham Mansion

Built in 1840 and enlarged circa 1890s, this beautifully restored B&B is the only one in Cape May to boast an indoor heated swimming pool.

Disappointing; Horrible Bed; Small Room; Poor Breakfast

Reviewed By ClinchMtnMan

We had high hopes for stay at the Wilbraham "Mansion" for our mini-vacation in Cape May. We selected a room in the "mansion" rather than in the newer hotel-style building in the back. The "mansion" was just a modest-size old Cape May house that needs some work. PROS: There is a salt water INDOOR pool. It looked nice but we're not swimmers so we didn't use it. The staff of 2 was moderately friendly but mostly invisible. The furnishings and fixtures are upgraded and it's obvious the owners tried to make things as nice as possible. There is an old kitchen with some items available. CONS: The room was small and not laid out well. The small TV was across the room, on the other side of the bed, but not a big deal, just inconvenient. The bathroom was in what likely was part of another room at one time and a 6" narrow step up (a tripping hazard, especially at night) and tiny except for the oversized shower. The biggest negative is the horrible mattress. We like a firm mattress but this was like a rock and lumpy. We didn't get a good night's sleep either of the two nights we were there. The "breakfast" was nothing special. No choice at all; they served it to our room (our choice) on a tray that we had to balance on our laps. It didn't seem like anything was homemade; I suspect frozen items reheated. Very disappointing. "Afternoon tea" consisted of serve-yourself to coffee or tea and a few packaged cakes and cookies. Finally, the off-season room rate was unreasonably high with a strict no-cancellation, no-refund policy. We could have stayed at the best chain hotel for half the price and many more amenities and comfort. Overall, we were disappointed and would not choose to stay there again.

Not Much Value at the Beach Colony Motel

Reviewed By Rich C

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed staying at the Beach Colony Motel. Although it is in a great location, which is close to the beach and pet friendly, the property and rooms are very run down with very little amenities provided. For the price paid, which is the price you would pay for a good hotel, there were only towels and some soaps provided in the bathroom. A glass shelf was falling off the wall. so I had to be very careful about using it. There was a small kitchen area with a refrigerator, coffee pot and toaster, but no coffee or creamers provided. Luckily, I did bring my own shower essentials. I did bring this information to the manager, Leslie, and she told me that the owner of the motel does not provide these things. You have to request room service by placing a sign on your door. I'm just giving everyone a heads up to bring these items if you decide to stay here, I hope they repair the glass shelf in the bathroom before the next guest arrives, but I did not see Leslie make a note of it or write down the room number, after I told her about the issue. I would not stay at the Beach Colony Motel a second time.

Wonderful afternoon tea.....

Reviewed By RICART75

If one enjoys the Victorian aesthetic, as we do; a high tea in a Victorian B&B is usually quite a pleasant experience. The full tea here was no exception. We began by exploring the building itself. From the attic Xmas shop, to the guest rooms (available for inspection, if unoccupied), to the main floor serving rooms; there was a wealth of architectural detail and accompanying decor to view and enjoy (e.g. the parasols hanging from the ceiling in one of the tea rooms). The staff were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The tea service was quite nicely done. The selection of teas from which to choose was fairly extensive; as was the variety of food provided during the course of the service. We were somewhat surprised (pleasantly) that soup and salad preceeded the sweets and savories traditionally served. The finger sandwiches were excellent, and the desserts were truly indulgent (especially the scones and clotted cream). This may have been the first time we ended a high tea with some items to take-out for later partaking. All and all, this was a wonderful step-back in time; by means of a very satisfying present day experience.
