We have just spent 2 nights at this hotel on the recommendation of friends - and they were right! We were welcomed by one of the owners and she gave us a comprehensive guide to the island, in French, but slowly and clearly enough for me to understand! The room was on the ground floor, and although small was perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean. Being out of season, many restaurants were closed, but that worked to our advantage as we ate in their superb restaurant on both nights. The delightful young waitress greeted us with a smile, and both the waiter and the owner were attentive and helpful. And the food - absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. An excellent wine list too. We enjoyed a bottle of wine sitting on the terrace watching the moored boats appear and disappear on the tidal canal! Traditional continental breakfast. The husband speaks excellent English but also allowed me to practise my shaky French! Altogether an excellent stay.

I am reviewing a room with shared showers and toilet. Let me start with telling you that I made a mistake when booking the room. I didn't realize we had to share the toilet and showers that were located down the hallway. I believe they have different types of rooms, so make sure you book the room you want. The place is very clean, well kept, staff was friendly. They make the most of a place that definitely has a barracks, boarding school feel to it. It was simple but totally Ok and they have a little garden in the back that the guests can use. Parking is right in front of the house on the premises. A nice beach (l'ileau) is not far by car. Shopping facilities are also close by.

We stopped in here after a long walk long the sea front at Saint Trojan, sitting on the street tables just a few metres from the beach. I had a salmon gravlax, others had a seafood salad, and beef skewers. All were beautifully prepared and delightfully presented. Not huge portions by any means (treading a fine line between 'nouvelle cuisine' and a filling meal) , but all were very tasty indeed, and set us up for the long walk back to the village centre. Service was a little rushed but adequate and friendly, and the food did not take a long time to arrive. Definitely worth the walk out of the village centre.

We have had lunch at this restaurant several times and the seafood has been excellent, so we thought we would try an evening meal. First, a dirty glass on the table with remaining lipstick traces was not a good start. Then the menu was uninspiring, so we went a la carte. A starter of cold shredded skate was served on top of a gésiers salad - a mistake I assume as the gésiers salad was a different starter. The skate itself was fine and on a simple salad would have been very tasty, but the gésiers overpowered it. A main course of sea bass with 3 peppers was not, as I had anticipated, sea bass roasted with 3 different peppercorns ground on top, but it was served with a 3 pepper sauce (from a packet - I use the same sauce myself with a steak) which was far too hot to go with the subtle flavors of the sea bass. The sea bass was well cooked and absolutely fine - on its own, sauce untouched. - but a chef who thinks such a sauce is appropriate with such a fish has a lot to learn. The redeeming feature was the Cafe Gourmand for dessert - this was truly fabulous, one of the best I have had, and the only thing that saved this restaurant from a 1 star rating. We will not be going back for dinner for a while. Disappointing

We struggled slightly to find decent accomodation on the island that was located in a town but eventually came across Les Mouettes and went ahead and booked for a three night stay in June. We drove past on a couple of occasions before stumbling upon the property, there is an entrance on the road with a bell and a tiny Les Mouettes sign, however, the owner was soon welcoming us and our car into the property. She was very friendly and explained the room, entrance and exit and breakfast arrangements in nice detail (in French). The room was clean and functional, exactly what we were looking for. The outside space is exactly as shown in the photos. On our visit their were only one other set of guests so the place was very quiet..apart from a two hour burst of frog noise in the evenings. You can, however, watch the cats doing their circuit of the pond. There was definitely an informal air to the place so it might not suit everyone. We arranged breakfast for 8.30 and promptly at that time the table was set and a lovely spread of bread, cheese, jam, cakes, coffee and orange juice was provided. This was perfect for us, slightly too much food but it did change slightly each day. The accommodation is a five minute walk from the sea and maybe slightly longer to the harbour. There is a close by supermarket and bakery and we used a local cycle shop to hire bikes. Les Mouettes proved perfect for us and we would like to thank the owners for their hospitality.
