The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

After a number of nights driving north from Melbourne, this spacious and comfortable apartment was welcomed. Our stay coincided with 185mm rain falling on the first night. Needless to stay sunshine and glorious walks along the beach weren't going to happen. Managed to catch up with washing/drying with in room amenities and appreciated the undercover car park too. Mark and Leanne are discreet, friendly hosts, never far away to help when required.

What a great surprise. This place looks so good on the web, it's nice to see the real thing is even much better. Compared to your everyday motel, the Casa Nostra Rockhampton is 5star plus. Separate villas (duplex some) are really new and modern. Quiet and well back from highway. The best travellers motel we have ever stayed in over 50 years of travelling. We stayed here a couple of weeks ago travelling north. Now going back south and it's terrific to be back today for a few days break on way home. This is real folks.

Traditional Queenslander timber home in world heritage rainforest just 1.5 kms from the beach. Guest accommodation, separate to the main house, overlooks award winning lush tropical gardens. We have 4 Queen rooms, all with ensuite shower rooms. These can be double or twin upon request. The Queen rooms share a long veranda overlooking the garden. The King Room is a larger room, with a king sized bed, and is situated at one end and underneath the main house. It has its own patio/dining area with a garden view., BBQ and private access to the guest lounge/kitchen. There is a large salt water swimming pool with waterfall feature, with views of the garden. Price includes a wonderful breakfast. The magnificent (and sadly endangered) Cassowary is a daily visitor to the Lodge. Free Wi-Fi, full kitchen facilities, BBQ, laundry and guest lounge.
We stayed at Dawn’s for 3 days in what was an idyllic tropical lodge. I can’t rate her highly enough. Everywhere was spotless, the communal lounge very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The breakfasts were superb and hot. Will definitely stay there again. we didn’t get to use the beautiful pool due to the rain

What a very disappointing end to a perfect 3 weeks of travel in FNQ and staying in some amazing places. Il Palazzo unfortunately was not one of them. Our check in process on Easter Monday was difficult with no staff on duty and an intercom outside service that kept cutting out.Whilst centrally located, the hotel is in need of a huge revamp in their rooms. Our 1 bedroom apartment, on the 1st floor, was tucked away in the corner with a dirty synthetic grassed area for the outdoor setting. We needed the lights on all the time. The kitchen was tiny, cupboards old and difficult to close and inadequate cooking facilities for an advertised "fully equipped kitchen." There was one power point for the kitchen. The lounge room was quite large but with an extremely small TV. The bathroom had no window, no fan, the toilet seat was broken and the power point had the screws coming away from the wall. The bedroom also had no opening window, one up high but didn't open and was internal anyway. There was no fan and no air con in the room making it very unpleasant. The hotel has a very good pool area but the BBQ had certainly not been cleaned. The internal open areas of the pool were quite lovely and very Italian. I expected a lot better and would not recommend this hotel in its present state.

The Denison Boutique Hotel offers luxury accommodation that will take you back in time. Built in 1885 it has been beautifully brought back to life. Starting with the choice of being picked up from the station or airport in a 1938 Rolls Royce, then delivered to our establishment which is surrounded by roses and hedged gardens. Each room with their 4.8m high ceilings and period style furnishings will give you the relaxed feeling of being some where totally luxurious. The Denison Boutique Hotel provides for our guests the highest quality comforts, a king size four posted bed, two person spa, 42” plasma television and wireless internet, while complemented with a high standard of friendly service. All of these features and benefits, including a gourmet breakfast for each guest daily will complete your experience.
This colonial styled hotel is a delight to visit. The furnishings, the extremely high ceilings, the big 4 poster, very comfy bed, the spacious rooms and the spa bath made for a beautiful atmosphere. Unfortunately our spa had been fixed during the day and despite the best efforts of onsite staff the air lock couldn’t be sorted but it was neither here nor there to us. The Manager wanted to give us another room and was really concerned about the lack of facility. The offer was genuinely appreciated but not necessary. We were disturbed once through the night by a passing goods train but the thick walls toned down the noise and we decided it was a small price to pay for the experience of being here. All in all - a great time was had by all.

I stayed in a pet friendly room and overheard my two dogs discussing the possibility of breaking out at the first chance they could get. Floating floors hadn't been fitted properly so the planks moved around opening gaps wherever you went. Bare wires hanging out of walls and electrical conduit hanging loose under TV bench with wiring connection within the grasp of toddlers or animals. Cupboards have been removed but painting hasn't been updated so old squares of paint left on walls. Castors have been left on the beds from when carpets used to be in place (goodness knows what state they were in) so when you sit on the bed you kind of take part in an in-room ride to wherever the bed takes you. Old tiles are still in place in entrance way which is an interesting look. Bathroom was awful and smelled. This place is now called ZED Motel Tropical Gateway. I can only assume that it was graded using the A-Z system and the standard couldn't get any lower due to the limitations of the alphabet.

Good value for money for a 2/3 star. Big effort going into cleanliness, more work to do but going up in quality, rather than down. Pool was fun! If you’ve got a car, easy access to City. Short walk to well ranked Smith St cafe. Free washer/dryer.
