The Suimeikan is a ryokan that was established 80 years ago along the Hida River, where it currently remains sitting at the heart of Gero Onsen, one of the three most famous onsen locations in Japan. Guests can experience traditional Japanese culture inside the ryokan, which features a Japanese garden, a genuine Noh stage, as well as ceramic and art works. Guests can also enjoy hot springs with skin beautifying effects in three spots, including an open-air bath with an indoor bath, a large scenic bath, and a large communal indoor bath with a hinoki sauna. The communal scenic bath can be used 24 hours a day. We offer a variety of guest rooms in the Seiranso, Rinsenkaku, Hisenkaku, Sansuikaku manors. The hotel also features plenty of facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, beauty salon, and a bar. Shuttle Service Gero Station ⇔ Hotel *No prior reservation required. Shuttle will match limited express train arrivals to meet guests. The hotel is located just a 3 min walk from there.
Suimeikan was a really good hotel. We decided to stop in Gero which turned out to be a very nice traditional onsen town. Beautiful place. The hotel is just across the bridge from the main town. The hotel is big, beautiful and welcoming. It is a traditional Japanese onsen hotel and feels wonderful to the small details. The have a indoor and outdoor pool, game room, 3 different onsens, many different restaurants and a lobby lounge with a beautiful Japanese garden. Lots of parking space. There are three main buildings. We stayed in Sansui and had the new Japanese Western room. We had a corner room with a beautiful view of both the bridge and the garden. The room was cozy and comfortable. Because it was newly renovated it didn't smell like old smoke as I read in other reviews. The room was great for us. Dinner at the Japanese restaurant was super. Breakfast buffet was not very good, food just wasn't very good. We visited during Golden Week and the hotel was booked solid, however we never felt that the place was crowded. The hotel absorbs guests very well. Service is excellent, very friendly. Hotel was easy to use and enjoy. Hours for use were all really flexible. Some hotels are just too restrictive. Of the three onsens my favorite was the Big Cedar bath and it had a sauna, second was the Outdoor bath. The Panaroma bath seemed old. Definitely worth a visit to Gero and Suimeikan if you are in the area.

We had a great stay at this hotel. I would highly recommend the Traditional Japanese room especially to tourists like myself. The view from the window is amazing as well. As for the onsen, I especially loved open air hot spring.

Located at the heart of Gero, the hotel is a complex of buildings with complicated circulation system due to building extensions. Everything looked aged, but it still offered a very pleasant stay. The best part was - of course - the onsen, with its really fine waters. Dinner and breakfast were nicely presented in a huge but windowless room. We stayed in the Japanese-style room, which was almost like a house in itself, but unfortunately with lingering cigarette smell, maybe in the tatami floor, or perhaps the bedding.

My friend and I stayed at the ryokan for one night in April 14 to 15. Upon arrival at the JR Gero Station, we immediately met our driver where he drove us to the ryokan directly (only 3 minutes). We were greeted warmly by the staffs at Fugaku! There were no language barriers as almost all their staffs could speak English. We would like to give a shoutout to Ben who ran us through the functions and rules of the ryokan. He even brought us to our room and gave a detailed explanation to the amenities there! He was a really friendly guy and made us feel really welcomed with his small jokes and conversations. The room was pretty spacious and clean and they even provided Yukata. We had in-room dinner and breakfast there and it was a really great experience as it was our first time! The food was pretty good! Another shoutout would be to this kind lady called Hansol who served our food for both of the meals without fail! She was also friendly and was always smiling throughout. The onsen was pretty small but was still a good experience nonetheless. Overall, the hospitality at Fugaku was what really made us enjoy the stay.

This is a traditional ryokan. The reception was friendly and professional including tea served in your room upon arrival and an orientation as to the various utilities and yukatas. The room was similar to other ryokans we have visited: large with a low table and two chairs in the centre of the room which are replaced by two comfortable futons put into place while we were at dinner. The difference in this ryokan was a small dressing room with a vanity hidden by a natural beam in the corner of the room as well as four upright chairs in front of a long natural beam table in front of the large picture window. I can understand while some reviewers would see the room as being slightly dated with its dark trim but this is offset by bright halls with their floral carpeting and beautiful stained glass windows. As well, the traditional food was superb - artistically prepared and extremely tasty - with multiple dishes served by our gracious hostess. Given the recent investiture of the new Emperor we had a special menu prepared for Year #1 of Reiwa (the name of the Emperor's era). The onsen was equally excellent, with various pools. A great place to start and end the day. All in all an excellent experience.

We stayed in a twin bedroom for a night. The service of the hotel is good. The female bathrobe has much selection and beautiful. The hot spring in the room is good but the size of the bathtub (hot spring) is not bigger enough. The public hot spring is not so nice.

We could get the staff at Gero Tourist Info counter to call the ryokan to pick us from the Gero Station to the ryokan. The rooms were very clean and big for a party of 4. The onsen was small but provided all the essential amenities. This ryokan could take a max of 50 guests at any time. When we were there, there was only another group of 4 guests, so we felt that we had the entire ryokan to ourselves. The dinner and breakfast were delicious but we didn't quite like the preserved fish. Would stay here again.
