We make a point of visiting this hotel when we can, after we came here several years ago and realised how excellent the restaurant is. It's a modest hotel, very professionally run by the helpful Mme Vacher, but M. Vacher's food is the star. The food is all very locally sourced (even at breakfast there are notes of where the food is produced) and good regional wine is also available - and recommended. So the menu is based around what is available locally and the standard of cooking is matched by the professionalism of the service. We will definitely be staying here again.

This hotel is in the centre of St Flour, really well positioned. We stopped for a night on our way to Spain. You cannot drive to the hotel, so don’t follow the car's GPS all the way, but park up and find the hotel on foot. They have a nice garage that we came across by accident weaving around the tiny streets! It is round the back of the hotel, down a small alley to the side. The room was a pretty good size, and the bathroom had a tub, which was a very nice surprise. The decor was in good order in both bedroom and ensuite, and the bed was comfortable (standard foam pillows though!). The room has an old fashioned (heavy) key which is unusual nowadays! The hotel has a bar with a terrace on the street and we had a couple of beers there in the evening sun. All the restaurants in town are a short walk away. We did not have breakfast, so cannot comment. The welcome was pleasant, and all round I can recommend this as a good place to stay in St Flour.

Add all this into the on-site golf course, lovely garden, swimming pool and hot tub and you’ve got the perfect place to stay if you’re visiting Chaudes-Aigues. Thank you so much Beatrice and Bruno.

We are pleased to introduce ourselves: Annemieke van Balen and Joost Meulendijks. In Holland Annemieke was a handicraft-teacher and Joost's job was insurance agent. At a certain moment we both got ever increasing feelings of adventure, renewal, a different way of life. We both are sociality-lovers, who like to please other people. The idea of "chambres d'hôtes" began quicly to take shape. We went in search of a region, which suited us: unspoilt nature for walking, possibilities for the winter period, and not too tourist. In Cantal (Auvergne,France) we have found our particular place. In decembre 1999 we bought our "grange" and in may 2001 we started our "chambres d'hôtes. We are glad to have taken this exciting step in our lives. Walking in Cantal is a real relief. We are still amazed at the beauty of the unspoilt scenery, the flowers, the animals and the panoramic vieuws. Peace, Space and pure Nature. What more could one want!
This year was the second time we've come to Grange de la Bastide and we still want to go again there. Anemieke and Joost are a very friendly and happy couple, they make us laugh a lot. The best bit about this place is the view and the outside kitchen where we could prepare anything we wanted, even a BBQ (it has a fridge as well). A tranquil and beautiful place to stay, we love it. Breakfasts are rich, too. Cantal and its mountains are gorgeous and breathtaking. More than 5 days stay required to cover its interesting and marvellous sights and Grange de la Bastide for us is the perfect place to spend our Cantal holiday. Always a must, a 60min walk through the forest down to the nearby town of Murat with its pitoresque stone houses and narrow streets and local shops to buy the best cheeses in France.

We can honestly say that this was the best B&B we have ever stayed in! We were in the 'Yellow' room which had a comfortable bed, plenty of wardrobe space, a settee and was very quiet. No television which was bliss. There was also a family room with a log fire and tea & coffee making facilities. We also liked the fact that they put some garden chairs out for us so we could enjoy the view with a relaxing cup of tea at the end of our exertions. Our hosts were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable on the area, the walks and restaurants and even provided little easy to read plans so we wouldn't get lost on the volcanoes. The breakfast was superb because apart form the crusty bread, orange juice and fruit, everything was bio and home-made so we had a selection of jams, yogurt, the local cheese and every morning a different cake to try. Covid wise we noticed how all precaution were taken with hand gel in the room and in the dining room, a meticulous cleaning routine and although we did not wear masks in the house we all practiced social distancing.

Stopped off on a drive through and only wishedI could have stayed longer. It had just re-opened after the pandemic so I was happily welcomed by the hosts which were very helpful. The food was locally sourced and fanstastic, and the room was large, clean and proper. The memorable part are the gorgeous surroundings and older structures comprising the village - definitly worth a stroll around. I will certainly be coming back for a longer visit - gret value and worth the detour.
