10 Bars & Clubs in West Village That You Shouldn't Miss

July 17, 2021 Phylicia Berquist

Conquering New York in one visit is impossible. Instead, hit the must-sees – the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art – and then explore off the beaten path with visits to The Cloisters or one of the city’s libraries. Indulge in the bohemian shops of the West Village or the fine dining of the Upper West Side. The bustling marketplace inside of Grand Central Station gives you a literal taste of the best the city has to offer.

The Village Vanguard

Ok first up this is a place I've always wanted to visit as I own several albums that were recorded here. The atmosphere is intimate and friendly, sound perfect and only a one drink minimum required. It is not by any means glamorous or glitzy but would have been disappointed had it been so, as many heritage music venues are now basically tourist traps.

Mezzrow

We had a Sunday 19:00 slot at Mezzrow. Its an intimate basement that immediately takes your mind back to smoked filled rooms in black & white. There about 10 tables close to the stage, one almost sitting on the lap of the pianist. On the night we had guitarist Chris Flory with an outstanding Larry Ham on piano and Lee Hudson on base. Great cocktails, pleasant snacks, a great way to get into the mood. We really enjoyed the experience

Carmine Street Beers

This is a fantastic Bar I highly recommend going. I come here all the time for fun and also I bring a Beer Tour here called the Craft Beer Tour in the Greenwich Village. This is a location that many of my customers always want to come to because it doubles as not only a shop where you can buy every kind of beer imaginable but also as a bar where you can come and try a beer before you buy a whole case! This is a great place, wonderful fun people and also a family run establishment. As a business it is not as old as some in the Greenwich Village but it feels like it has been around for decade and I hope it stays around for decades too!
