Walking from the train station to the museum is worth the journey itself! A very unpretentious building but certainly attractive. Built like a ship and features amazing artwork by Damien Hirst, Ai WeiWei amongst many others and the special exhibition by Patricia Piccinnini is a must. The museum itself is a delight with views across the sea. Do not miss the amazing store on the way out.

Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg

Kunsten is a living art museum allowing space for immersion, wonder and fascination. The museum houses a unique collection comprising over 4000 works of art, mostly post-1900, by Danish and foreign artists. The exhibition area consists of five galleries providing visitors with ample opportunity to experience the permanent collection as well as a number of special exhibitions. Kunsten also hosts a variety of events including lectures, film screenings, concerts, family workshops, guided tours, and other activities suitable for all age groups. The museum building, completed in 1972, is an attraction in its own right. Designed by the world-famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, assisted by Elissa Aalto and Jean-Jacques Baruel, it is the only museum building outside Finland designed by Aalto. The museum is built of striking white marble, a style that is continued inside with stunning marble flooring and copper lamps, also designed by Aalto.

I used to live in Aalborg in the dawn of time but I never got around to visit Kunsten. Now on a short holiday trip I did go there and actually wish I had been there before. The building by Aalto is a study in it self with many very nice details and the exhibition is really nice. The museum aims to put the art in context and to promote discussion e.g. by indicating "conversation zones" where you can discuss with you fellow art people. Nice cafe and sculpture park where there is also room for children.

First time visit to AROS. Very surprised by the Popularity of this new classic Aarhus attraction. - but well deserved. The museum is big, but stretching over 10 levels there is plenty to experience. There is all kinds of art with focus on modern art - and with many different artists- and different styles we were all (including the kids) entertained, thrilled and dazzled for 4 hours. Must see’s; the installation art on the 1+2 level, FAR FOR HOME - including the famous ‘BOY’ and the extraordinary sign mark of AROS - Olafur Eliasson round rooftop circle walk. So in short - AROS is a unique experience and a ‘Must-see’ in Aarhus - also for those only moderately art interested.

Ribe Art Museum was establishedin 1891 in one of the town’s most impressive buildings, the cotton fabric manufacturer Balthazar Giørtz’s luxury villa, built in 1864. It is one of the oldest art museums in Denmark. And with a fascinating collection of Danish art from 1750 to 1950, it flourishes with masterpieces from the great groundbreaking periods of Danish art history. Ribe Art Museum reopened in 2010 after a thorough restoration of theinterior and exterior. This is a gem for anyone with art interests. It has recently been refurbished and the displays and facilities are very 21st century. The art is mostly Danish for the collection but they have regular visiting exhibitions. The coffee shop is brilliant and there are outside tables and chairs with a great view down to the river.

Davids Samling (The David Collection)

Reviewed By westy54 - Sydney, Australia

Thie David Collection is housed in the building once occupied by the museum's founder, barrister and businessman, Christian Ludwig David (who died in 1960), and a neighbouring building that was subsequently acquired. They were comprehensively renovated to purpose between 2005 and 2009 such that all of the exhibits are wonderfully displayed. Both buildings overlook Kongens Have. There are 3 different collections in the museum being: . the collection of Islamic Art - located on the top 2 floors, which is clearly the largest of the 3 collections and actually is one of the largest Islamic Art collections in Europe. This collection includes works from the geographic sphere of Spain to India, the period from the 7th century until 1850 and includes textiles, rugs, Korans, paintings, calligraphy, architecture, jewellery, ceramics, prints, coins etc. many of which, as there is insufficient room to display them all hanging, are in excellent pull-out drawers. There are truly a significant number of exceedingly beautiful pieces in this collection, many of which have been added after David's death by the Foundation established by David to run the museum; . the collection of European 18th century art which is displayed over 2 floors that have original furniture from when David lived there including several pieces by Chippendale and Roentgen and includes porcelain from Meissen, ceramics and silverware from France and Denmark (Royal Copenhagen) plus Dutch and French paintings from the 17th and 18th century; and . the collection of Danish Early Modern Art including about 12 works by Vilhelm Hammershoi. Entry to this gem of a museum is free and you get a great handout and tablet to walk around with. Highly recommended.
