This National Historic Site contains the country's largest and most extensive sculpture collection of American Figurative Sculpture, much of it places in beautiful gardens. Also a site for Lowcountry History and our Lowcountry Zoo, featuring animals native to our area.
The largest sculpture garden in the world - 350 acres!!! Gorgeous gardens, impeccable landscapes, a wide variety of sculpture in varying places (indoors and out). If you visit Myrtle Beach, this garden is an incredible surprise and well worth visiting for a few hours. They also have a small zoo, an explorer bus ride and also a pontoon ride thru the canals of the old rice plantations.

The Gibbes Museum enhances lives through art by engaging people of every background and experience with art and artists of enduring quality, by collecting and preserving art that touches Charleston, and by providing opportunities to learn, to discover, to enjoy, and to be inspired by the creative process. Recognized among the oldest arts organizations in the United States, the Gibbes has played a significant role in shaping the careers of American artists for over a century. The Museum connects the city and region's artistic past to a vibrant contemporary art scene.
The Gibbes is a fabulous art museum in Charleston that offers something for everyone. It's not overwhelming and easy to see in a couple of hours. The mobile app is great and has a variety of tour themes. The building is beautiful, especially the stained glass dome of the rotunda! From colonial through contemporary art, the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions explore the history of Charleston and the southern region. Their visiting artist series is a fun way to meet working artists in different mediums (I've met a Weaver and a taxidermy artist!) and the program schedule offers fun connections to what's on view. The garden concerts in the spring and fall are particularly fun, and the Gibbes on the Street event in April/May of each year is one of the best events in town.

The Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston School of the Arts provides a multidisciplinary laboratory for the production, presentation, interpretation, and dissemination of ideas by innovative visual artists from around the world. As a non-collecting museum, we create meaningful interactions between adventurous artists and diverse communities within a context that emphasizes the historical, social, and cultural importance of the art of our time. This gallery had such a wonderful variety of art from abstract all they way to hyper realism by great artists all over the world. The staff there, Frank and Thomas, were very knowledgeable and super friendly. I signed up for their newsletter because they seem to always be hosting events. I can't wait to visit again!

La Belle Image is proud to present you the work of three of the best artist-painters in the world. The paintings you will see on our walls will enchant and touch you by their beauty and serenity. Our curators welcome you warmly and will be happy to answer your questions. Richard Riverin was born in Quebec in 1942. Self taught, Richard developed a unique pallet-knife technique with his own special blend of paint. He became an artist at the age of 58 in Naples Florida where he owned an art gallery. Due to his financial difficulties, he could no longer buy art anymore; his only way out of this situation was to make the paintings himself. With 23 years as a gallery owner, he knew the trend of the art market and he knew that his work would have to surpass the work of those great artists being sold in all the Naples art galleries. He became one of the best selling artist in Naples, FL and then one of the most successful exhibitors at ArtExpo New York over many years.
