The sandy coast of Goa is perfect for reclining by the sea. Nestle into a cushioned chair at a beach shack and savor a curry while you sip a Kingfisher beer, watching the sun slip lazily below the horizon. In Old Goa, the beautiful Basilica of Bom Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a fine example of baroque architecture. Visit during Christmastime to experience a fantastic religious and cultural mash-up of East and West.

One of the most noticeable churches in the heart of the city which can be seen from far and cannot go unnoticed. With its white washed walls and beautiful Portuguese architecture, it is one of must visit places while in Panjim. I was told by our taxi driver that many Bollywood films have been shot here. There are many steps to climb but not difficult to climb. From the top one gets a nice view of the city too. It is beautiful inside too! One can definitely spare 20-30 minutes to see this Church.

In the company of a Christian Indian guide, we toured the Jesuit 16th Century Basilica of the Bom Jesus (the Infant Jesus), which contained the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier housed in a silver casket, and the Dominican Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Both featured soaring ceilings and elaborate altarpieces and side altars, carved in sandalwood and then gilded. The statues of the saints looked similar to the familiar santos of New Mexico. Both churches require modest dress, which means both men and women need to cover their knees and shoulders.

It is one of the biggest temples in Goa. Must visit if you are in Goa to get the blessings of God Shiva. Very beautiful temple. There used to be an ancient one at another location but it was destroyed by the Portuguese invaders during Goa inquisition. Somebody managed to hide the idol at the current location. This was a farm labourer called Mulkeshwar. You will find his temple behind the main temple. He used to smoke bidi, so devotees offer him bidi and is considered a form of the God himself. Temple also has a nice canteen where you can enjoy local vegetarian food right from breakfast to dinner.

Tour this vast, sumptuous Portuguese property with a descendant of one of the original owners.
This old house is a homage to old Goa. Don’t be confused by the adjoining house which is a different house. Originally built by two brothers however the two family’s don’t seem to share the same vision. Me exes Braganza is definitely the better example of the period. The home is filled with amazing antiques and artefacts from a bygone era.

This place is a Hidden Gem tucked in South Goa - this should be made more visible and popular. The entry fee is 100 INR per person which is pretty economical. This place is huge and you can easily take close to a hour to do the walk through. The place is quiet and offers an inside look into Goa History and about their Culture & People. you can do the tour of the Alvares Mansion opposite this place for 100 INR which is also worth the time. The mansion takes you back in time to the Portuguese era and how life was there back then. Amazing two places next to each other - Skip the spice tours and head here for a wholesome tourist experience.
