Pretty famous at the time, as historians have preserved into their reports, the small city of Herculaneum, settled at the Volcano Vesuvius slopes, had been buried during the Vulcanic burst dated 79 A.C. Despite the centuries and the new urban settlements, 2000 years after that awful disaster you have the chance to move around the city and walk on the original stoned pavements. The  private guide will show you the highlights of the Roman city while listening in details to our ancestors’ customs and traditions. Among the must see of the site, your will visit the "Palestra" (gym) and the houses whose walls are decorated with spectacular frescoes such as Casa di Nettuno e Anfritrite, Casa dello Scheletro, Casa dell'Alcova e Casa del salone nero. Our tour was from a cruise ship and was fabulous. Early in the day and without crowds as you would find at Pompeii. It was a resort village, populated with only a few slaves and caretakers when hit by a pyroclastic flow that covered the town to a depth of six meters, preserving it. Wonderful mosaics, frescoes and statues. Photographers will enjoy the subjects of buildings, streets, art, and houses. Do not suggest a tripod, my DSLR with a zoom lens was all I needed. Some rooms are dark, so anticipate using a high ISO. Take shots from the rim above before walking through the tunnel to be in the village. Then you will use the wide-angle a lot.

Roberta was so patient and kept my seven and nine year old riveted. She knew how to change up the pace, keep them engaged, while being able to answer the most random questions. I highly recommend!

Booking was easy and we received prompt replies to our queries. We missed our original flight due to a motorway closure for a serious RTA. We messaged Tony as soon as we knew we were not going to make it and although he had already set off to collect us he happily rearranged both our pick up and departure at no extra cost. He was waiting at the airport when we arrived. The journey was comfortable and interesting with all Tony's facts along the way. The same on the way back. Tony speaks perfect English so communication is easy. Overall very professional, clean and Covid aware. He also made us feel relaxed after a very bad start to the trip. Thank you Tony.

The easiest-to-handle tour because it gives most of the site’s impressions in just two hours. If you are in Naples area and you still have some time left before you leave, a visit in Pompeii can be your best choice. During this tour you will be guided through the maze of streets and buildings which were destroyed overnight by the huge 79 AD eruption and covered by a thick layer of ashes and pumices until their excavations in modern times. The guide will show you the best highlights like the Forum – the main square of the city – the main houses and buildings. You’ll also stop and see the plaster casts – the dead bodies of the Pompeiians emerged by the excavations.

We had a 2 hour private tour of Pompeii with a fantastic guide arranged through Mondo Guide. He was very knowledgeable and we all learnt so much from him and his spoken English was fantastic. He made the tour very interesting and also put some humour into it for us. He was very engaging which was great for our teenage sons and he took the time to find out about us and tell us things that we would be interested in. For example we are a very musical family so when we visited the theatre he was explaining about the acoustics which was of great interest. We were also very impressed that he was conscious not to take us to areas that were crowded with large tour groups. He waited until these areas were less busy before taking us there to ensure that we got a good view of things and that we could hear what he was saying. We are so glad that we booked this tour with this company. We saw so many large groups which we were walking around and we all commented on how much better it was to be part of a small and intimate group. We all felt that it was worth paying extra for the outstanding service that we received. We would definitely recommend Mondo Guide to people that are planning a visit to Naples.
