Built under Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD, the Roman Theatre of Orange experienced a real rebirth in 2003, transporting visitors back to Imperial Rome. The new tour and the free audioguide in seven languages tell visitors about the shows and social life in the Provencal city during Roman times. In the new projection room, the film, with computer-generated images and reconstructions of shows, retraces the history of the Roman Theatre of Orange.
Absolutely magnificent! One of the must see places while visiting the region. An excellent examplre of roman architecture and style.

How a town undercovered another ancient town. The ruins are in nice shape to show you the outline of the buildings when they were built. Impressive inside this beautiful French town. A great mix of the old and the very old. Worth a visit.

After driving up through a medieval village, you park behind a small church. Then the walk begins! It's extremely steep and winding. I had to stop several times!! Once you reach the fortress it's €5 each to enter. When we went it didn't open until 13.30 although it was listed online at 11.30. You can walk around the fortress and the ramparts and the views over the Rhône and surrounding countryside are stunning. You can even climb onto of the turret which involves a metal ladder. Not for the fainthearted! There's information about the area and the fortress and some rooms have been set up with items from its past. There are picnic benches at the carpark, at places in the walk up and in the fortress itself.

This site is the hard work of many years to rebuild the stone structures of the village. All the work is done without mortar and the rock is of the area. A glimpse into a past way of life.
