From canal-laced, fairy-tale cities like Bruges and Ghent to the urban centers of Antwerp and Brussels, Belgium sits at the crossroads of medieval and modern Europe. The chance to sample famous exports such as chocolate and beer straight from the source only sweetens a visit.

Last building standing of the old 17th century fortress of Plassendale, the historic Spaans Tolhuis welcomes cyclists and travellers near the old sluice at the waterfront. While taking a peek at the restoration or playing some games in the garden, you can enjoy a good beer, coffee, picon, icecream or bread with local specialities. Submerge yourself in history!

Near the doors of the Ardennes, along the Lesse, near Dinant, park and nature reserve of Furfooz invites you to discover through a nature walk
We started the day with this nice tour around the hills. It is really clean, sign are clear and the cave are nice surprises. Strongly recommended with kids with the lamp of your mobile. Explore them. Nice bar in the middle of the way where you meet the kayakistes.

I love Orval beer and visited the abbey many times as solo or with friends as well. It is always a pleasant way to kill some time, like an hour and a half. Afterwards, in the vicinity, you can get some crispy or old beers. In the abbey you can learn on brewing process and history as well. The scene is nice and not too stuffed with tons of information but also you get the basics you need. To visit the new monastery there are only 2 possibilities in each year I think, and the brewery itself also. So what you can see are the ruins of the old monastery and some gardens, exhibition rooms etc... Once I'll sign up for the visit of the operating part.

Poilvache is the largest still existing medieval fortification in the Meuse Valley. Located at less than 5 km from Dinant, the site of Poilvache lies on a calcareous spur overlooking the river and the picturesque village of Houx. The 13-15 century walls and several towers protected the "Town" and the "Castle" of Poilvache (2,5Ha "intra muros")
