The Djemila (translation: beautiful) Roman ruins of the ancient city Cuicul are easily accessible by road from Constantine or Setif. Except for a few buildings, only the street paving and the foundations are preserved. That's why a guide is needed (they're not working on Tuesdays) or a guidebook (a good one is for sale at the shop but is available in French only). The theater, a temple, a Christian monument are well preserved. I preferred Timgad for its typical Roman checkerboard plan but Djemila offers another type of city and some better preserved buildings.

This ancient city still demonstrates Roman grid town planning.
Loved the peaceful and relaxing old city of Timgad. Perfect please to remember how life used to be before technology
